The archipelago’s numerous private islands—such as the star-studded Parrot Cay—are resplendent with pristine white-sand beaches, clear blue waters, secluded bays, and some of the most exceptional beach homes in the Caribbean. Ultra-high-net-worth individuals flock here for peace and quiet with five-star resorts and service, designed to cater to such a clientele with enormous investment benefits. PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands -- A Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) success story is being held up as an example to the rest of the Caribbean.
The TCI hospitals at Cheshire Hall Medical Centre and Cockburn Town Medical Centre were built through a public/private partnership (PPP) between the islands’government and InterHealth Canada.

And as other countries in the region consider PPPs, officials are being urged to visit the hospital for inspiration.

The latest country to examine the TCI model is Trinidad and Tobago, where last week, the High

Commission of Canada and the International Finance Corporation, hosted a PPP seminar in Port-of-Spain.

InterHealth Canada TCI chief executive, Dr Roger Cheesman, explained: “PPPs are very popular in Canada and they are now being considered for various projects throughout the Caribbean.

“Here in the TCI we have a shining example of how private and public enterprise can come together and succeed for the good of the whole community. It therefore comes as no surprise that we are again being held up as a role model to others.”

InterHealth Canada and the TCI government have received critical acclaim since opening the medical centres in April 2010, with the hospitals being named in the world’s top 100 PPPs by accounting giants, KPMG.

“The Turks and Caicos hospital is certainly a huge success story and it is held up as an example around the world,” added Cheesman.

“We have hosted a number of visits from delegates representing different countries and all have been impressed by what they’ve seen.

“Current financial constraints apart, this country and its government have something to be very proud of and it’s a wonderful endorsement when others look to follow your lead.

”

The Port-of-Spain seminar has received extensive coverage in the Trinidad and Tobago press, as has the TCI hospital.

Cheesman said: “When so many people are talking about us, it can only be a good thing. The TCI and the hospitals have received great coverage in Trinidad and Tobago and that’s good news on various levels.

“For instance, it underlines the excellent work both we and the Ministry of Health do here, along with government in general and NHIP. But it is also a huge plus too when it comes to both commerce and tourism.”

One of the beauties of what we do in the Turks and caicos Islands is our access to some of the worlds most beautiful homes, such as Emerald Cay. As Exclusive affiliates of Christies Intenrational Real Estate we have a unique opportunity to share properties such as Emerald Cay with a global network in over 40 countries around the world, all reaching the high net worth buyer who appreciate such properties as not just homes, but works of art,

Uniquely spectacular real estate in the Turks and Caicos Islands has once again played feature on the small screen, with R.A. Shaw-designed Emerald Cay showcasing as part of HGTV’s Million Dollar Rooms.

Ten years ago, real estate agents were selling million-dollar homes. Today they’re selling homes with million-dollar rooms.

The May 5 one-hour show featured 10 of the most expensive rooms in the world, including the three-story library of the $48.5 million dollar Emerald Cay estate located on the southwestern shore of Providenciales.

An all access pass into 10 of the most expensive rooms in the world, the show featured everything from a $5 million, two-story custom closet to a lavish home spa in Thailand. The show was promoted as “an exclusive look inside the most spectacular, one-of-a-kind designed rooms.”

The library, which is estimated to have cost around $4 million, is custom built, fully wood paneled room centering around a one of a kind helical staircase.

“The sophistication and structural integrity it is second to none,” explains Ron Shaw, owner of R.A. Shaw Designs, who designed the room said and managed the complete build of the project.

Shaw says the show’s highlight of the Emerald Cay library correctly displays the abilities and capabilities of design and construction in the TCI. “We can compete really well with the North American design market,” he said.

This is not the first time homes in the TCI have been featured on HGTV, the most popular home and garden channel in the United States. The popular “House Hunters International” show has featured home buyers searching for their dream homes in the TCI on several occasions over recent years.

ROY LICHTENSTEIN'S I CAN SEE THE WHOLE ROOM!...AND THERE'S NOBODY IN IT!
FETCHES $43,202,500--A WORLD AUCTION RECORD FOR THE ARTIST

16 NEW WORLD AUCTION RECORDS

Last evening's Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale at Christie's in New York achieved $247,597,000 (£153,510,140 / €178,269,840), demonstrating the continuing appeal of this category among collectors worldwide. Thirty-three works sold above the $1 million mark and 16 new world auction records were established. In total, sell-through percentages were very strong, with 90% sold by lot and 87% by value.

"The world's top 10 collectors were present in the saleroom tonight, and a global community of collectors was bidding aggressively on works by the preeminent artists in this category," said Brett Gorvy, Chairman and International Head of Post-War and Contemporary Art at Christie's. "This is an extremely strong sale result."

The top lot of the sale was Roy Lichtenstein's I Can See the Whole Room...and There's Nobody in It!, which set a new auction record of $43,202,500. Painted in 1961, it is one of the earliest and most important of Lichtenstein's Pop Art pictures, formerly in the collection of the pioneering collectors Emily and Burton Tremaine. The previous record for a Lichtenstein work was Ohhh ... Alright..., 1964, which sold at Christie's New York in November 2010 for $42.6 million (£26,785,550 / €31,105,800).

International luxury real estate shoppers can now search by "Private Island" and "Villa" on christiesrealestate.com. This brings a new total of 11 property types and 16 lifestyle search options now available on the site.

Believe it or not, we have found that one of the leading property searches in the Caribbean luxury real estate market is for "Private Islands", and with such amazing islands as Parrot Cay,Ambergris Cay,Dellis Cay,Pine Cay, and West Caicos, the Turks and Caicos has its fair share of private Islands and luxury Villas.

If you have been "labouring" under the impression that our economy is bad right now. Not so! the WSJournal points out that the super high-end real estate market, at least, is doing just fine, which is a relief. There's never been a better time to purchase a luxurious private island that could hypothetically be your very own private domain! Just ask Johnny Depp.

Perhaps the best-known private-island compound is magician David Copperfield's 700-acre resort Musha Cay, which is spread across 11 islands... Mr. Copperfield describes it as a place where he can "create magic in three dimensions" and where a stay can include an optional, interactive treasure hunt where he says guests are immersed in a "living movie." (Dozens of actors and illusionists are imported to play pirates.) Recent additions to the resort include trained macaws that pick up Musha Cay's refuse and a "secret village," opening soon, where visitors can interact with tame monkeys.

The good thing is that you don't have to buy an entire island to get the benefits of the private island lifestyle. Parrot Cay, one of the Turks and Caicos Islands most beautiful islands assures a Paparazzi free retreat for the rich and famous. Many very well known "A-List" stars actually own properties on Parrot Cay, with many of the worlds "Who's Who" traveling to the island for well deserved vacations away from prying eyes and superior service.

Katherine and I spend a great deal of our time on all the private islands in the TCI, both for business and pleasure.. In fact, Katherine and I were married at Keith Richards House on Parrot Cay, walking down the aisle (beach) to the Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil", an awesome experiance.

Private Island life is a magical experience and one we recommend to anyone looking for that perfect piece of paradise.

Starting on February 16, 2012, Air Canada will be offering another direct flight from Halifax into Providenciales, Turks and Caicos. Canadian tourists, who accounted for more than 12% of all arrivals to TCI in the first half of 2011, are sure to be pleased that Air Canada is offering a four hour non-stop flight to warmer temperatures during the cold winter season.

In the first half of 2011, an influx of U.S. tourists caused arrivals at Providenciales International Airport (PLS) to increase by 23% compared to the same time period in 2010. New Continental flights from New Jersey and new JetBlue flights from New York and Boston accounted for two-thirds of those visits, and a new weekly service from Halifax, Nova Scotia (YHZ) will give more Canadian tourists the opportunity to fly directly to Providenciales.

Outbound Air Canada flights will depart from Halifax, NS on Thursdays at 1:45pm and will arrive into Providenciales at 5:30pm. The new extended runway at Provo International Airrport will welcome many larger, long-haul flights from Canada and Europe.

The inaugural Air Canada flight from Halifax to Providenciales is scheduled to depart on February 16, 2012.

Canadian visitors accounted for twelve percent of all arrivals in the first six months of 2011, and now that people living in Nova Scotia have direct access to the soft, white beaches of Grace Bay, those numbers are bound to go up.Smile
